Given there is currently a petition doing the rounds that has over 70 million signatures calling on Real Madrid to sell him, Kylian Mbappé cut an extremely relaxed figure during his recent interview with Vanity Fair.

Perhaps the interview was filmed before the 15-time European Champions were plunged into further crisis last week when Federico Valverde was taken to hospital with a head injury after a dressing room row with Real Madrid team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni.

But even still, it’s release on Tuesday, two days after Barcelona were crowned La Liga Champions with a 2-0 win over Real at the Camp Nou, could’ve been better timed.

Nonetheless, the interview with the prestigious publication showed a side of Mbappe that football fans rarely see as the global icon answered questions that he is rarely asked.

“I start to learn how to cook,” begins the French World Cup winner. When asked what's the Mbappe special, he replies: “For example, nothing. For the moment, nothing. But I try to be better.”

But the conversation soon moved back towards football as the 27-year-old spoke about living in Madrid and representing Real.

“It's peaceful to be in a place like this, and I really enjoy my time in Madrid,” he added.

“We have fans all around the world. Of course, in Madrid, even more. It's the greatest club in the world, the most famous club.

“We have love, we receive love from everywhere. It's the big club in the world, so it's such a blessing to be part of this club and this project.”

Finally, the forward spoke about playing with France. After winning the World Cup in 2018 and scoring a hat-trick in the final but finishing as runner-up to Argentina in 2022, Mbappé has set his sights on captaining his national side to glory.

“There is nothing better than representing your country, you become part of the elite of international footballers," he continued.

"It's difficult to be in a situation like ours, where everyone expects us to work miracles. But miracles only happen in the field; you don't need to play the game before the game.

“I'm the captain of the team. It's different now. It's a different responsibility.

"But I'm ready for that, ready to lead my team to the biggest stage game, and I hope that we are gonna go back with the trophy in Paris and in the Champs-Elysees.

“I think when you play, you don't think about the legacy. You think about to perform, and to bring the trophy home.

“If we win, and if I win, it's gonna be insane for the legacy of the country and my legacy, for sure.”
