Benfica attacker Jaden Umeh hailed Ireland's resilience after Colin O'Brien's youngsters sealed a last 32 place at the U17 World Cup in Qatar with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Uzbekistan.

The Asian champions, winners over Paraguay in their opening game, took the lead when Abubakir Shukurullaev volleyed in a rebound after 20 minutes after Alex Noonan had saved.

Ireland levelled on 33 minutes when Grady McDonnell headed in powerfully from Ade Solanke's cross.

And the wideman was provider again in 15 minutes from time, this time Shamrock Rovers star Michael Noonan heading in.

"It was a very challenging game," reflected Umeh, "especially when 1-0 down in the first half.

"But the team showed great resilience and that's the main feature in our team. Everyone kept their heads up.

"We're thrilled. It's a wonderful moment. Especially our first time Ireland qualifying for the U17 World Cup, to qualify now for the last 32. It's a great achievement."

Ireland are at least guaranteed qualification for the next phase as one of the best third-placed sides but are now well placed to top their group, with Paraguay next. "We have to go into the game with the same mindset," said Umeh. "It's another game to play."
