POLITICAL FOOTBALL: The stand-off comes as the football association awaits word on their pleas for funding for club academy industry to develop players.

The politician who first raised questions about the FAI’s handling of historical abuse against female footballers has slammed their delaying tactics as “insulting” and “arrogant”.

Just five days ahead of their scheduled appearance before the Oireachtas Sports committee, the FAI on Friday withdrew after “doubting the committee’s intentions”.
