A fourth home win of the season, thanks to a brace from Lee Devitt, Karl O’Sullivan's penalty and another from sub Trpimir Vrljicak keeps Treaty United in the top four.
In a clash that Tommy Barrett’s side dominated from start to finish, they played the final third against ten men, after UCD had Niall Holohan dismissed when conceding the spot kick.
Devitt pounced for a 34th minute opener. His first effort from marginally inside the area was blocked by a defender before Mark Byrne teed him up for a second effort with his right foot, which he curled neatly into the corner.
UCD started the second half with intent and some quality. Jake Doyle and then Michael McCullagh working Carl Williams, who was making a first start in goals for United. His second save was spectacular to deny McCullagh, who had moments of quality for a team starved of possession.
Niall Holohan received his marching orders just inside the final half-hour. O’Sullivan picked his pocket, with the defender immediately hauling him down. The Limerick native neatly converted his spot kick to virtually ensure the result.
Devitt bagged his eighth goal of the season, with his second on 73 minutes, neatly tucking beneath the keeper from close range.
It was a performance lacking in energy and belief from William O’Connor’s youngsters, who remain just outside the play-off placings. Ciaran Behan came closest to a consolation hitting the post with ten remaining.
Vrljicak exploited the exhausted visitors, adding further gloss in stoppage time.
