The First Division’s bottom side Athlone Town AFC have parted company with manager Dário Castelo following Friday’s 3-0 defeat against Kerry.
The heavy loss at Mounthawk Park was their third on the spin, leading to the end of the Portuguese’s 22-month reign.
The LOI’s oldest club are currently the subject of a takeover bid - a consortium with links to English Championship club Plymouth Argyle recently making inroads towards full control.
A club statement said: “Athlone Town AFC can confirm that Dário Castelo has departed from his role as first team manager by mutual consent.
“Dário, who took charge of the team in 2023, led Athlone Town to the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, an achievement that reflects his dedication and passion for the role. He leaves with the respect and gratitude of everyone at the club.”
Castelli added: “I would like to thank everyone for all the support, respect and friendship I received throughout my time in this role.”
