Ireland midfielder Jamie McGrath may have played his last game for Aberdeen as Scottish, European and American suitors circle.
McGrath was last week ruled out for “several months” following shoulder surgery, coming on the back of 27 appearances and five goals for the side currently fourth in the Scottish Premiership table.
The Athboy native, who won the most recent of his 13 caps against Finland in October, has yet to commit his future, returned to Scotland in August 2023 after a spell in England with Wigan Athletic failed to work out.
Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is aware of negotiations in the background with director of football Steven Gunn but they are liable to lose the former Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic playmaker for nothing in June.
League rivals Hearts and Hibernian are among the suitors monitoring a player who is technically allowed to open negotiations with potential new employers.
“I know that his agent and Steven are speaking,” Thelin said about McGrath.
“Let’s see what’s happening. I know the process is there and that’s what I know.”
