Charlton Athletic's Conor Coventry has been drafted into Heimir Hallgrimsson's Ireland squad ahead of the Nations League clash with England at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Former Ireland under-21 captain Coventry, 24, takes the place of Bristol City midfielder Knight, who is unavailable through injury and suspension.

Knight started the 1-0 win over Finland on Thursday but has been ruled out of Sunday's final group game against Lee Carsley's side, who top the group after a comprehensive three-nil victory over Greece.

London-born Coventry - who made the permanent move to Charlton in last January from boyhood club West Ham - was a key part of the Ireland under-21 setup for a number of years at the turn of the decade, is yet to be capped at senior level in green.

He is Ireland's record cap holder at under-21 level, with 28 caps to his name, earned between 2019 and 2022.
