He may have been frozen out of Heimir Hallgrimsson's Ireland squad but Matt Doherty is now back in the Boys in Green set-up.

The Icelander last week revealed his selection for the upcoming Finland and England games - with the Wolves defender again absent.

Doherty, Everton's Cork-born centre-half Jake O'Brien and Southampton's Ryan Manning have been called up following injuries to the trio of Seamus Coleman, Shane Duffy and Adam Idah, the FAI confirmed on Monday morning.

Doherty expressed his unhappiness with the perceived disrespect from the new Ireland boss in an interview with The42.

Asked last week about Doherty, Hallgrimsson said: “It’s the same as the last press conference.

“We want to explore other players in that position, He and Seamus Coleman were stuck in the starting XI so we don’t need to see or test him.

“I haven’t spoken to him and didn’t read the interview – only heard about it.

“All players should have the confidence to feel they should be playing. I’d be unhappy if they didn’t feel deserve to play. He has a lot of experience but these two camps are being used to explore."

Idah picked up an ankle injury during Celtic's 3-0 win over Motherwell on Sunday while Seamus Coleman has been suffering with a hamstring issue

Ireland face Finland on Thursday evening before taking on England in the final Nations League qualifier at Wembley on Sunday.
