Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler says Evan Ferguson is getting closer to a return from injury - providing a glimmer of hope that he could be available for the Republic of Ireland's Nations League clash against England on 7 September.
Striker Ferguson had to sit out his side's 2-1 victory over Manchester United, and didn't make the bench despite returning to training following an ankle injury.
But Brighton and Ireland supporters may not have to wait long judging by Hurzeler's post-match comments at the Amex, even if it is too early to know whether Albion will judge the player fit enough to join Heimir Hallgrimsson's squad when the international break arrives.
Hurzeler said: "Evan came back after a long injury, so we have to be very careful. Especially with young players who want to be on the pitch or want to be back as quick as possible. We need to settle them down and then do it step-by-step.
"But he has started training with the team and you can already see why he's here, because he has great abilities and great skills for a striker."
