It has taken 12 months, but Tottenham have finally replaced Harry Kane, which is why the arrival of Dominic Solanke – and others – has caused a surge in optimism among Spurs fans.

The mood could not be more different to the one of trepidation at this time last year, when Tottenham were going into the season with a new manager untested in the Premier League, a raft of young players, some of whom were hardly known to supporters, and the impending departure of Kane, the club's best player for a decade and its record goalscorer.
