Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh has signed for English Championship side Southampton from Cork City.
The 18-year-old was one of the first academy players to sign a professional contract with the Rebel Army in 2021, and went on to make over 25 senior appearances for the club.
The Leesiders have confirmed that they have agreed terms on an undisclosed initial compensation package, from which they should also stand to benefit from in the future.
Speaking to Southampton's media department, O'Brien Whitmarsh admitted it was always his dream to make the move to a team in England.
"I'm absolutely buzzing, this is a dream come true really. Playing back home in Ireland it's always been a dream to get a contract in England and it's here now and I'm happy.
"I'm a two-footed number 10, I love to get goals and chip in all over the place to create chances. It seems like an environment here that I can thrive in so I'm looking forward to it."
Academy Director Andy Goldie explained why the Saints were keen to bring the youngster to the English south coast.
"Joe is a really positive addition to our Under-21s squad and Academy pathway, strengthening competition in our 8 and 10 positions.
"He's already demonstrated his abilities at first-team level in Ireland and we're looking forward to building, over the next three-and-a-half years, on the development and opportunities Cork City have provided him."

We are delighted to confirm the signing of Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh, who joins #SaintsFCU21s from Cork City:
Head of Academy Recruitment, Jack Chapman, added: "Joe is a bright, young player that has caught the eyes of a lot of clubs from around 15-16 years old. He's a determined personality who we're pleased to welcome and help showcase himself further.
"He compliments the players of a similar age already in the building, carrying the ball from midfield and scoring goals in and around the box. He'll enhance our competitive culture here and hopefully he flourishes like many of those around him."
Cork City Head of Academy Liam Kearney stated; “Joe is a very talented young player, who has progressed through our Academy, into the first team environment and has also battled back from a serious injury.
"He has been with the club for five years and it has been a pleasure to watch his development over that time.
"Everyone around the club thinks very highly of Joe, both in terms of his ability, as well as his character. This is a good opportunity for him, so we thank him for his time with the club and wish him every success in the future.”
