A play-off will decide the winners of the Women's National League this year

The Continental Tyres Women's National League will be decided by a play-off after Shelbourne Ladies beat Wexford Youths WFC 3-1 at Tolka Park.

Second-half goals from Niamh Walsh, Siobhan Killeen, and Rebecca Creagh swung the game for the hosts after Nicola Sinnott had initially given the champions the lead on a night when they could have retained their title.

It was always going to be a game of high drama with so much at stake and it didn't disappoint. A high intensity was maintained throughout as neither side wanted to give up any ground.

Wexford required just a single point to be crowned champions for a second year running and they started the game brightly before taking the lead before half-time from a close-range finish from Sinnott.

Shels were not prepared to give up the fight though and they were back on level terms when Walsh headed in. They then took the lead from a neat strike from Killeen before she was fouled for a penalty that Creagh converted.

The result means that the title race goes on with the two teams due to meet again to decide who will lift the trophy.

A date for the play-off will be announced in due course.
