The Irish Examiner’s soccer correspondent Liam Mackey gave us his views on the Republic of Ireland’s Euro 2016 qualification and Roy Keane’s future with Ireland.

It was a rollercoaster of a tournament, but Mackey felt last night’s fairytale finish in the Aviva Stadium was a fitting way to qualify.

“It’s been a fantastic couple of days,” he said. “They done the heavy lifting out in Zenica in the fog by getting the away goal, but I think everybody still felt the game was on a knife edge.

“The first goal (last night) was fortuitous to say the least, I think it was one of the softest penalties you’ll ever see.

“But over the two legs there was no question that this was a deserved victory.”

“It was a fantastic way to finish a campaign that has had its fair share of ups and downs.”

Mackey also discussed the future of Ireland's assistant manager, suggesting that he will hopefully stay for next summer's campaign, but maybe not too much after that.

"I think he will be around for the finals; having come this far he won’t want to miss out on that," Mackey said.

"But he’s never hidden that he wants to get back into (club) management. The number two position is not entirely satisfying for Roy Keane."
