Dave Tynan's short film was based on Roy Keane's beginnings as a footballer at Cork club Rockmount, who were also involved in the filming.

11-year-old Craig Keane Harrington from Ballincollig was cast in the role of the boy Keane back in March and was just one of a strongly Cork-based cast.

Director Tynan spoke to the Irish Examiner before shooting and emphasised the importance of casting locally.

" Every single speaking role is a Cork native and that’s the way to do it," he said.

"We’ve got a film to make now but this cast gives us the best possible chance to make it work.”

His decisions paid off. 'Rockmount' premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh on Saturday and on Sunday was announced as winner of the Tiernan McBride award for Best Short Drama in association with Network Ireland Television.

Tynan last night thanked the Rockmount club for their support during filming as producer Michael Donnelly tweeted his delight at the win.

When asked about a public release for the movie, Tynan said he plans to screen the film at more festivals before possibly showing it online.
