The 32-year-old became only the 10th player to reach the milestone for the club, who are unbeaten in 17 league matches – having won 15 – against the Magpies at home, as Brendan Rodgers named the same team which contested last weekend’s Merseyside derby.

Newcastle made three changes from the victory over West Brom with Vurnon Anita, Steven Taylor and Papiss Cisse returning to the line-up.
