Rodgers snubs unhappy Downing

Stewart Downing, who admitted to being upset by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers’ criticism last week, is not even on the bench for the Reds against Stoke today.

Rodgers has made eight changes from the side beaten by Udinese on Thursday, after which he called them “lazy”.

Stoke, with former Liverpool players Peter Crouch and Charlie Adam both starting, are unchanged from the team that beat Swansea last weekend.

Michael Owen misses out on a return to Anfield himself, however, apparently due to a minor injury.

Liverpool: Reina, Wisdom, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Fernandez Saez, Suarez, Sterling.

Subs: Jones, Henderson, Cole, Assaidi, Coates, Carragher, Borini.

Stoke: Begovic, Cameron, Huth, Shawcross, Wilson, Walters, Nzonzi, Whelan, Adam, Kightly, Crouch.

Subs: Sorensen, Jones, Edu, Whitehead, Upson, Etherington, Jerome.

Referee: Lee Mason.
