How the last-day drama turned out

Look away now Man United fans. Here is how the dramatic last day of the Premier League unfolded.

1500: Kick off: Manchester City stand one more win away from ending their 44-year wait for the title, but a point for QPR should be enough to keep them up. Manchester United must win at Sunderland and hope; Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle are all in the running for one or possibly two Champions League spots.

Bolton must win at Stoke to have any chance of survival – and then hope City do the business at the Etihad Stadium.

1502: Emmanuel Adebayor puts Tottenham ahead against Fulham after just 96 seconds – temporarily sending Harry Redknapp’s men into third.

1504: Arsenal snatch third place back almost immediately as Yossi Benayoun puts the Gunners in front at West Brom.

1511: Shane Long equalises for West Brom at The Hawthorns – so Tottenham leapfrog back over their rivals into third.

1513: Bolton’s survival hopes suffer a major blow as Jonathan Walters puts Stoke ahead at the Britannia Stadium.

1515: Spurs take a firmer grip on third place as Graham Dorrans puts West Brom 2-1 up against Arsenal.

1516: Newcastle’s hopes of muscling in on the Champions League places are hit as Steven Pienaar puts Everton in front at Goodison Park.

1520: With City still deadlocked, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men seize the initiative as Wayne Rooney nods home United’s opener at the Stadium of Light.

1527: Newcastle’s top four hopes look over after Nikica Jelavic volleys Everton 2-0 ahead at Goodison.

1530: Arsenal give themselves hope of clinging onto third place as a long-range shot from Andre Santos makes it 2-2 at The Hawthorns.

1539: Mark Davies gives Bolton hope by nudging an equaliser at the Britannia Stadium.

1539: Pablo Zabaleta puts City in front at the Etihad Stadium with a long-range shot which is flapped into his own net by QPR keeper Paddy Kenny. As things stand, the title is heading City’s way.

1545: Half-time: as things stand, City are heading for the title and QPR will be relegated. Tottenham are holding off Arsenal in the race for third place.

1608: A shocking blunder from Joleon Lescott lets in Djibril Cisse to snatch an equaliser for QPR. At present, the title is back in United’s hands – and Rangers are edging towards survival.

1615: Laurent Koscielny’s goal puts Arsenal 3-2 up at The Hawthorns and puts Arsene Wenger’s men back in third place.

1615: QPR are down to 10 men as captain Joey Barton is sent off at the Etihad after a clash with Carlos Tevez followed by a series of scuffles.

1623: Jermain Defoe puts Spurs 2-0 up against Fulham. But it looks like Harry Redknapp’s men will have to sweat on Chelsea defeat next week in order to secure a Champions League place.

1626: Astonishing scenes at the Etihad, as Jamie Mackie heads home an Armand Traore cross to put QPR 2-1 up, and the title edges closer to the red side of the city.

1627: Newcastle’s top four hopes are as good as finished as Johnny Heitinga puts Everton 3-0 up at Goodison.

1633: Too little, too late for Newcastle, as a Tony Hibbert own goal makes it 3-1.

1636: Bolton are heading for the npower Championship after Walters makes it 2-2 at the Britannia Stadium from the penalty spot.

1650: City substitute Edin Dzeko gives his side hope in injury time as he heads an equaliser from Silva’s corner. But they still need another goal from somewhere.

1653: It’s over at the Britannia Stadium and Bolton are relegated. An anxious wait, too, for United after they complete victory at Sunderland.

1654: Sergio Aguero strikes another goal in injury time and in a remarkable twist, City have snatched the title with a 3-2 win.

1656: It’s all over: City are champions, Arsenal and Tottenham claim third and fourth respectively, and Bolton are relegated.
