A draw see's Shamrock Rovers salvage a point

Shamrock Rovers had to come from two goals down to salvage a point from a frenetic 2-2 draw with second from bottom Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds.

Kieran "Marty" Waters scored twice on 16 and 37 minutes as Bray silenced the large travelling support.

Referee Paul McLaughlin provided further drama a minute before half-time when Rovers had a goal, scored by Billy Dennehy after a penalty by Gary Twigg was parried by Darren Quigley, disallowed as Dennehy had encroached into the area as it was being taken.

Midfielder Ronan Finn did get Rovers back into the game with a goal on 67 minutes before Daryl Kavanagh set up Twigg to score his ninth goal of the season on 82 minutes to rescue a point.

Danny North's sixth goal in five games was enough for Sligo Rovers to beat Cork City 1-0 at Turner's cross and extend their lead at the top of the table to three points.

The only goal came on 87 minutes when North punished an error by Cork defender Dan Murray to shoot past Mark McNulty.

Drogheda United maintained their fine start to the season with a 3-1 home win over Shelbourne to stay third in the table.

Brian Gannon slotted home a cross from Shane Grimes to give Drogheda the lead a minute before the break.

Gannon was involved as Drogheda doubled their lead on 53 minutes, the defender crossing for Ryan Brennan to shoot past Paul Skinner.

Substitute Peter Hynes added the third goal on 74 minutes to end the game as a contest.

Philly Hughes scored a penalty for Shelbourne six minutes later before they had defender Stephen Paisley sent off on 80 minutes for a professional foul.

Goals in either half from Christy Fagan and Greg Bolger gave St. Patrick's Athletic a 2-0 win over UCD at Richmond Park to keep them fourth in the table.

James Chambers set up Fagan to score the opener on the half hour. Midfielder Bolger tapped home the second on 81 minutes after terrific skill by Chris Forrester to create the opening.

Dundalk stunned Derry City 2-1 at the Brandywell to earn a surprise second win of the season.

Poor defending afforded Michael Rafter the opening to shoot home Dundalk's first away goal of the season after 14 minutes.

Another defensive mistake gifted Shane O'Neill Dundalk's second goal seven minutes into the second half.

Ruaidhri Higgins headed home from a corner to get back Derry back into the match on 84 minutes. But despite having captain Chris Shields sent off in stoppage time, Dundalk held out for a big win.

Monaghan United got their first win of the season when beating Bohemians 2-1 at Dalymount Park, despite playing virtually the whole game with ten men.

Goalkeeper Chris Bennion was sent off in the third minute for bringing down Karl Moore outside the area.

But Monaghan showed great character to dominate much of the game, taking a deserved lead on 49 minutes through Stephen Maher.

A contender for goal of the season got Bohemians level on 61 minutes when substitute Ryan McEvoy scored with a stunning 35-yard shot.

Monaghan substitute Jason Marks then won it for the visitors three minutes from time when turning to shoot home inside the area. Despite the win, Roddy Collins' side stay bottom of the table on goal difference.
