Suarez bemoans Reds' misfortune
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez believes the team have been unlucky rather than wasteful in front of goal and is hopeful their fortune will change next season.
The Reds have scored just 40 goals in 33 league matches, which puts them on a par with 13th-placed West Brom although their record is slightly better than Everton, immediately above them in seventh.
Conversely they have hit the frame of the goal 29 times in all competitions this season.
Suarez is the clubâs leading scorer with 14 in the current campaign but has come in for criticism for not being as prolific as he was prior to his ÂŁ22.8m move from Ajax in January 2011.
However, he argues that the teamâs form in front of goal comes down to fractions of degrees and that the woodwork will not be able to deny them indefinitely.
âWhen you shoot, you can look for the spaces between the posts and the goalkeeper,â Suarez told LFC magazine.
âBut instinctively you usually aim for the corners, which means that thereâs a chance the ball might hit the post and I think we have hit the post more times than the crossbar.
âSometimes this happens. As a striker, you can shoot from 25 yards and hit the post with a shot that is technically perfect.
âBut you can also be looking the wrong way, the ball hits you on the knee and it goes in. The next minute, you score again and youâre on a run.
âThere is an element of luck. It would be more worrying if chances were not being created.
âMaybe next season, all the ones that hit the post and come out may go in.â
