Connor confident he will see out the season
Manager Terry Connor is confident he will remain in charge of Wolves until the end of the season despite their relegation fears deepening with a 2-1 defeat at Stoke today.
In a week in which Paul Ince has made himself available to take over at Molineux, Connor saw his side crash to a sixth successive Barclays Premier League defeat.
Michael Kightly had given them a 26th-minute lead but goals from Robert Huth and Peter Crouch left them six points adrift of safety with six games left.
Afterwards Connor, who has taken just a point since taking over from Mick McCarthy, denied speculation he could be replaced by the likes of Ince, telling ESPN: âI donât pay any attention to it.
âPaul Ince hasnât worked at this club for a number of years. Iâm in charge and Iâve got a job to do.
âThatâs what Iâve been asked to do by the club. Iâve not been told any different.
âItâs been a tremendous challenge. Itâs been an honour and a privilege to manage Wolves. I just wish I could get some results for the fans of this club.â
It was the third consecutive game Wolves have led only to miss out on the points, but Connor believes his side have shown enough to believe they can still avoid the drop.
âItâs hard to take. I thought we played really well and deserved to take something from the game,â said Connor, who also criticised referee Mark Halsey for awarding the free-kick that led to Huthâs leveller.
âThere was no foul committed. I think we should defend it better â we were a bit deep â but there was no foul for Mark to give.
âWeâve done well in the last three games. Weâve taken the lead three times and not been able to see it through. With all the preparation we do itâs hard not to see it through.
âIf we are successful it will be on the back of things we did in the past three games. If we donât weâre not good enough.â
