Barclays Premier League strugglers Wolves took a shock half-time lead at third-placed Tottenham.

Steven Fletcher (23) bundled the ball in after a header from Roger Johnson had been cleared off the line.

Spurs thought they were level in first-half stoppage time, but Emmanuel Adebayor was offside when he followed up Gareth Bale‘s shot.

Frank Lampard gave Chelsea an early lead against Sunderland at Stamford Bridge.

The veteran England midfielder – whom manager Andre Villas-Boas claims is not for sale “at any price” – diverted the ball into the net after Fernando Torres’ volley had come back off the crossbar on 13 minutes.

Second-placed Manchester United – who could go level with leaders Manchester City, set to play at Wigan on Monday night – missed the chance to go ahead against struggling Bolton at Old Trafford, where Adam Bogdan saved Wayne Rooney’s penalty.

Zat Knight had tripped Danny Welbeck in the area on 21 minutes, but Bogdan guessed correctly to pull off a fine save, low to his right.

However, the home side were in front just before the break when veteran Paul Scholes – who came out of retirement last week – knocked in Rooney’s cross.

Blackburn’s hopes of recording a much-needed home win over Fulham were dealt a blow when striker Ayegbeni Yakubu was sent off after 26 minutes for high tackle on Danny Murphy.

Fulham striker Bobby Zamora hit the post with a header, and Paul Robinson kept out Philippe Senderos’ effort before Rovers snatched the lead in first-half stoppage time through a free-kick from Morten Gamst Pedersen.

Norwich were ahead at West Brom through Andrew Surman on 42 minutes in a match which the Baggies had dominated.

Neil Cox was denied by a fine save from keeper John Ruddy before James Morrison’s goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Surman.

Then to rub salt into the wounds, the Canaries midfielder swept the visitors in front just before the break, converting Wes Hoolahan’s pass.

The games between Aston Villa and Everton, and Liverpool and Stoke at Anfield, were goalless.
