Marcos Alonso aggravated a foot problem in the midweek victory over Blackburn and was replaced by Paul Robinson while Dedryck Boyata came in for Gretar Steinsson.

There was some defensive cheer for Newcastle with Mike Williamson making his first appearance since August while Ryan Taylor replaced the injured Davide Santon and Yohan Cabaye returned after suspension.
