Blackburn's Yakubu steals show with four-goal haul
FT Blackburn 4 Swansea 2
Ayegbeni Yakubu’s stunning solo show lifted Blackburn off the foot of the Barclays Premier League and sunk Swansea at Ewood Park.
Yakubu struck all four of Rovers’ goals in a 4-2 win with Leroy Lita briefly equalising for the visitors and Luke Moore reducing the deficit late on.
Rovers had Joe Allen sent off for a second bookable offence late on, shortly before Neil Taylor gave away the spot-kick from which Yakubu completed his fine day’s work.
Moore’s goal prompted a sustained period of Swansea pressure and it almost paid off in the 75th minute when Sinclair fired over the bar.
Scott Dann made a superb interception to deny Moore a second chance at goal in the 78th minute, then a goal-bound drive by Sinclair was booted clear in a crowded box.
Swansea were reduced to 10 men with 10 minutes to go when Joe Allen was dismissed for a second bookable offence after a push on Yakubu.
And Yakubu rounded off his magnificent day two minutes later when he calmly slotted his fourth from the penalty spot after Taylor brought down Vukcevic in the box.
