John Terry hopes Chelsea’s capture of Raul Meireles will make up for the club’s failure to sign number one transfer target Luka Modric.

Chelsea’s three-month pursuit of Tottenham midfielder Modric ended in failure yesterday as the west London outfit failed to sign the Croatian despite a reported £40m bid for the player just before the transfer window shut.
