Tevez back for City training
Carlos Tevez will return to train at Manchester City today with his future still uncertain and manager Roberto Mancini confirming he still has to finish his summer squad building exercise.
Tevez returned to Manchester yesterday and has every intention of honouring his commitment to the Blues by heading to their Carrington complex even though his resolve to leave remains strong.
With a bid from Brazilian outfit Corinthians falling through earlier in the summer, Inter Milan now look like the most realistic option for Tevez.
Yet a deal with Manciniâs former club appears inextricably linked to the departure of Wesley Sneijder. And on that score, Mancini insists he is not interested.
âNo,â he said. âIt is not true.
âHe is an Inter Milan player. We never spoke about him.â
Instead, Mancini is looking at other targets, including Arsenalâs Samir Nasri, in a bid to ensure his side are fully primed for a Premier League title challenge when the transfer window closes at the end of this month.
âWe need to complete our squad,â said the City chief.
âWe have another 23 days until the end of the market in order to achieve the target we had at the start of pre-season.â
Mancini will not be panicked into making further alterations despite yesterdayâs 3-2 Community Shield defeat to Manchester United at Wembley.
Although he admitted his side were fortunate to find themselves two goals up at the break, Mancini was disappointed at the way City faded once Chris Smalling struck six minutes after the restart.
A Nani brace rendered first-half efforts from Joleon Lescott and Edin Dzeko meaningless, with Mario Balotelli a major disappointment in Tevezâs absence.
âHe can do his job better,â acknowledged Mancini.
âIt is not always possible to play well but it is important he works for the team, like the other players.â
Meanwhile, Mancini believes big-money arrival Sergio Aguero needs to improve his fitness before he can be considered for first-team action after spending the entire game on the bench.
âAguero is not ready to play,â said Mancini.
âMaybe I could put him on for the last 10 minutes but it is difficult because we needed tall players for the set-pieces.
âHe needs to train. He finished playing three weeks ago. Now he needs to train and recover.
âProbably he doesnât need a pre-season like the other players but just a bit more work to find his form.â
