Lisburn put to the sword as Rovers march on
Shamrock Rovers 4 Lisburn Distillery 2 (Shamrock Rovers won 7-2 on aggregate)
Paddy Kavanagh put the gloss on Shamrock Rovers' passage through to the last-four of the Setanta Sports Cup with a late brace on the night at Tallaght Stadium.
Ronan Finn and Stephen Rice combined to set up Kavanagh who turned inside the area to rifle to the net on 81 minutes.
Winger Kavanagh then raced clear onto Finn's pass to score a fine solo goal on 88 minutes.
Both sides wasted early chances before Rovers gifted Lisburn the lead on the night after 14 minutes.
Hoops defender Pat Flynn totally misjudged a long ball out of the Lisburn defence to allow Gary Liggett in behind him to shoot low pat Ryan Thompson.
Rovers might have been level on the half hour but for Paul Muir’s goal line clearance from Karl Sheppard.
But the equaliser finally arrived on 42 minutes when Stephen O’Donnell threaded a ball through for the perfectly timed run of Ciaran Kilduff who rounded keeper Billy Brennan to slide the ball home.
Brennan then made a superb save to tip Kilduff’s header onto the bar.
The tie was sealed within two minutes of the restart when Sheppard’s low diagonal ball in from the right flank was met by Rice whose low drive from 16 yards went in off the near post.
Liggett headed a second from Gary Browne’s cross on 56 minutes before Kavanagh's late doubled gave Rovers their emphatic aggregate win.
