Carroll starts for England

Fabio Capello stuck to his original plan to given Andy Carroll his England debut against France tonight despite Newcastle’s concerns about their star striker’s fitness.

After Capello confirmed his intention to pick Carroll yesterday, the Magpies medical staff contacted their FA counterparts to express their concern about the player who had a groin injury when he reported for duty on Sunday evening.
