Ali Al Habsi has been preferred to Kirkland in recent weeks but, with the Oman international ineligible against his parent club, the former number one was given another chance.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has reverted to two up front, with Hugo Rodallega coming in for Ronnie Stam, while Bolton were unchanged from last weekend’s 2-1 win over Stoke.

Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Steinsson, Cahill, Knight, Robinson, Lee, Holden, Muamba, Petrov, Elmander, Kevin Davies.

Subs: Bogdan, Taylor, Mark Davies, Ricketts, Blake, Cohen, Moreno.
