Bellamy hints at Utd interest
Craig Bellamy has hinted that Manchester United were interested in signing him from Manchester City before he joined Cardiff on loan in August.
Bellamy attracted plenty of interest from Barclays Premier League clubs, but admits it would have needed a âmiracleâ to make the move from Eastlands to Old Trafford.
âGarry Cook (Cityâs chief executive) said to me it was the most phone calls heâd had on a player for a while,â Bellamy said.
âHe said âYou should take that as a big complimentâ and I said âYeah, they all seem to want me apart from the club Iâm actually at.â
âTottenham wasnât going to get done and someone else came in above them as well which would have caused a few stirs.
âIf I would have said I wanted to go there for one minute my life at Man City....staying there would have really tough for the next couple of weeks.â
Asked if he was referring to Manchester United, Bellamy added on BBC Radio Five Live: âI ainât gonna say anything but it would have been a tough couple of weeks.
âIt would have been a miracle if it would have come off. I sat down with my agent and we were realistic, do we hold out for it or do I go on?
âAnd I think because of the other club being interested, Man City panicked as well and said âyou can go to Cardiffâ and they pushed it through as quickly as possible.â
