Pat's cruise past Drogs to regain third spot

Drogheda United 0 St. Patrick’s Athletic 3

Goals from Ryan Guy, Danny North and Garreth O’Connor saw St. Patrick’s regain third spot in the table to maintain their bid for Europe from the league.

The result also edges bottom side Drogheda further towards relegation as they remain six points adrift with just three games to play.

The home side started brightly and were deservedly in front on 14 minutes.

Drogheda failed to clear a Derek Doyle corner and American striker Guy headed home his sixth goal of the season.

North doubled Saints’ lead just before the hour when reacting quickest to shoot past Robert Duggan after the Drogheda keeper had parried Doyle’s shot.

Any chance of a Drogheda revival ended on 62 minutes when midfielder Eric McGill was sent off for a bad challenge on North.

O’Connor added a third goal on 85 minutes.
