Huntelaar joins Schalke on deadline day
Holland striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar headed out of AC Milan on transfer deadline day, with Robinho poised to replace him.
Huntelaar, 27, made a 13million euro switch to Bundesliga side Schalke - joining former Real Madrid team-mate Raul, who signed earlier this summer.
Meanwhile Robinho arrived in Milan for talks about a prospective move from Manchester City.
Schalke boss Felix Magath told Bild newspaper: âNegotiations were tougher than expected. I am happy to have Klaas Jan. He will help us.â
Huntelaar has failed to establish himself fully at first Madrid and then Milan since leaving Ajax in January 2009, scoring 15 goals in 50 appearances in that time.
But he was prolific during his time in Amsterdam, finding the net 80 times in 104 games after joining from Eerste Divisie side AGOVV Apeldoorn.
âKlaas Jan wants to continue his career at Schalke. Schalke and Milan have agreed on a transfer fee of about 13 million,â read an article on his personal website, www.klaasjanhuntelaar.com.
âIt is true I never wanted to leave Milan but that changed when Zlatan Ibrahimovic came from Barcelona,â he said.
Any transfer taking Robinho to the San Siro is unlikely to be a simple one.
Milanâs two major signings this summer â Ibrahimovic and Kevin-Prince Boateng - have come in the form of complex loan deals, with Boateng first joining Genoa from former club Portsmouth and the Sweden international heading to the Rossoneri on a short-term basis with an option for a permanent deal.
Schalke have also agreed a fee with Atletico Madrid for Jose Manuel Jurado.
Atletico confirmed following last nightâs 4-0 win over Sporting Gijon that they had agreed to sell the playmaker.
No details of the deal were announced but Spanish media are reporting that Schalke will pay around âŹ13m for the 24-year-old, who opened the scoring against Sporting at the Vicente Calderon.
An Atletico statement said: âAtletico Madrid have reached an agreement with Schalke for the transfer of Jose Manuel Jurado to the German team. The agreement between the two teams was closed on the night of August 30.
âIn the coming hours he will leave for Germany, where he will be presented by Schalke.â
Also in Germany, Hoffenheim have completed the signing of midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from English Championship club Reading for a deal worth a reported âŹ7.3m.
Sigurdsson, 20, has signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga club, before immediately departing to join up with the Iceland squad ahead of Euro 2012 qualifiers against Norway and Denmark.
âGylfi Sigurdsson, although only 20 years old, has a great ability to score from midfield and we still see in him huge potential to develop further,â said Hoffenheim team manager Ernst Tanner.
Stuttgart have signed 33-year-old Italy international Mauro Camoranesi from Juventus on a one-year deal.
A World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, the 33-year-old Camoranesi scored 32 goals in 288 appearances for Juve after joining the club in 2002 from Verona.
âThose who love Juventus will always remember Mauro Camoranesi with affection and gratitude,â read a statement from the club.
Juve also confirmed today they had parted company with veteran defender Jonathan Zebina.
The French right-back is set to join promoted side Brescia later today.
Lyon have announced the signing of Senegal defender Pape Diakhate on a season-long loan from Dynamo Kiev.
The 26-year-old spent six years at fellow Ligue 1 club Nancy before moving to Ukraine in 2007 from where he went out on loan to St Etienne in January this year.
Now the uncompromising central defender will spend the season with Les Gones who are currently 17th after a poor start to the campaign.
Of the reason behind his move to Lyon, Diakhate told the clubâs official website: âI am signing for a big club who will contest the Champions League.
âThe club will allow me to grow and progress. I donât think there was a better choice for me and my family.â
