Rooney hoping to regain scoring touch

Wayne Rooney will be looking to score his first goal since March when Manchester United open their Premier League campaign against Newcastle on Monday.

Rooney scored 34 goals for the Old Trafford outfit last year but has not found the net for club or country since opening the scoring in United’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena.

New signing Javier Hernandez may have to be content with a place on the bench after a midweek trip to Mexico for the friendly draw with Spain.
