Mervue United out to spring surprise against Sporting Fingal
Mervue United will be looking to shock Cup holders Sporting Fingal when the sides meet in tonight’s FAI Ford Cup third round replay at Terryland Park (kick-off 7.45pm).
The two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Morton Stadium in June and now Mervue will be hoping for an upset at Terryland Park.
The FAI Cup fixture will be a welcome relief to Mervue who have been struggling in the First Division with only 12 points accumulated all season.
The Galway side will be hoping to bounce back from their current run of bad form having lost their last five league games in a row.
Fingal travel west without some key players as Shaun Maher is suspended, while Colin Hawkins (ribs) and Keith Quinn (foot) are ruled out through injury.
Fingal boss Liam Buckley said: “Mervue United tested us in the first match at Morton and we'll have to be sharper to get through this replay.
“We've a proud FAI Ford Cup record in our previous two years and will take this game very seriously. I'll be putting out our strongest available starting side.
“Our win at Galway United (on Friday) was imperative for our league prospects and we'll be looking for another victory to maintain hopes of repeating last season’s triumph in the competition.”
