Frank Lampard was denied an England equaliser when the ball was clearly over the line in a pulsating World Cup last 16 match with Germany in Bloemfontein.

Germany had raced into a two goal lead through Miroslav Klose – his 50th international goal – and Lukas Podolski.

But Matthew Upson pulled one back and then TV replays showed Lampard’s shot, which hit the underside of the bar, was at least a yard over the goal-line.
