Long back for Waterford

Waterford United have received a boost with the return from injury of Seamus Long ahead of tonight's clash Cork City in the League of Ireland first division.

Seamus Long's recovery has been quicker than expected. He has returned to full training, and should be available for selection.

Kevin Murray is a little further away from full recovery, and is rated as doubtful for the game.

After patchy away form in the league, former league leaders Waterford now find themselves four points adrift of Derry City at the top of the table, while Cork City sit in fourth spot, nine points behind the Northerners.

"No two ways about; it's a huge game," United boss Stephen Henderson told Beat 102-103.

"It's a local derby. There will be a big crowd and were going out for a battle. We have to win the battle. Cork are a good side, so it's important that we win it."

Waterford Winger Liam Kearney used to play for the Rebels, but the "Conna Maradona" has told Beat Sport that will not factor in his mind on the night.

At this stage now I've been away from Cork for a while," he said. "It's another game - I don't see it as any bigger than last week's or next week's game. It's game you have to enjoy; it's a Munster derby and obviously Cork will want to win it as they will want to get up the table as well as us.

"I'll take the game on its own merits and hopefully it's another three points and up we go."

Both Stephen Henderson and Liam Kearney were speaking to Beat 102-103 Sports Editor Martin Clancy.
