Wayne Rooney’s absence again cast a shadow over title-chasing Manchester United after a goalless first-half against Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Rooney was ruled out by a groin injury that he suffered in training on Thursday and without him United again struggled to make their dominance tell.

Dimitar Berbatov did have a couple of chances against his old club. But Ledley King dived in to block the best opportunity as Harry Redknapp’s Champions League hopefuls retained a chance to complete a memorable hat-trick after beating Arsenal and Chelsea in their last two games.
