Berbatov wants another chance at United

Dimitar Berbatov has pleaded for the chance to rescue his Manchester United career.

Although Alex Ferguson has insisted he still trusts the Bulgarian, who cost him a club record £30.75m when he was lured north from Spurs at the start of last season, there have been claims United have lost patience with the striker.

Berbatov has scored 14 goals this season, less than half the number bagged by star man Wayne Rooney, and failed to make any impression against either Chelsea or Blackburn recently as United have slipped to the very edge of the title race.

It has led to the conclusion Ferguson will not put up with such under performance any longer and Berbatov could be offloaded, at a huge loss, this summer.

However, Berbatov insists he can still be a success at Old Trafford.

"People have not seen the real Berbatov this season and I would have liked to have done more for the club," he told The Sun ahead of today's Manchester derby.

"My dream is still to triumph with United and win another league title.

"At Spurs I have scored more goals with less problems and at United it has been more difficult.

"But I do not worry about the critics. In football it is harder to be a forward because people analyse errors more than success. My morale is high and I am always trying to overcome the situation."
