Cahill: Clot could have been fatal

Bolton defender Gary Cahill has revealed “the slightest knock” could have proved fatal when he was suffering from a blood clot.

The 24-year-old is poised to return to action against Manchester United today for the first time since being diagnosed with the defect before Bolton’s game against Fulham last month.

“The slightest knock could have sent the clot travelling towards my brain, lung or heart,” he was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.

“Potentially, it could have been life-threatening. That’s how serious it might have been – I could have been in real trouble.”
