Tough at the top for Sporting Fingal
Bohemians 1 Sporting Fingal 0
A dubious penalty gave champions Bohemians a scarcely deserved opening-night win over FAI Cup holders and Premier Division newcomers Sporting Fingal at Dalymount Park tonight.
New signing Mark Quigley wasted a glorious chance to get Bohs' season off to the perfect start but had a complete mis-kick yards from goal as he attempted to turn home Killian Brennan’s sixth minute cross.
Sporting edged the first half and ex-Bohs striker Gary O’Neill drilled narrowly wide early in the second before the game's controversial moment arrived on 76 minutes.
Keith Quinn was very harshly adjudged to have pulled down Brennan and the winger casually slotted home from the spot.
