Hunt not for sale, says Hull board

Hull have reiterated their determination not to sell winger Stephen Hunt.

The Republic of Ireland international has reportedly been the subject of renewed interest from Wolves since manager Phil Brown insisted the player was not for sale last week.

Hull are looking to offload a number of players to ease their financial problems but are adamant Hunt, a success since his move from Reading last summer, will not be one of them.

A club statement read: “The club is now becoming bored of continual speculation within the local media surrounding his future and would like to place on the record that the player is not for sale.

“The club will not be commenting any further on speculation in relation to this player. He is not for sale.”

Hunt, 28, has scored five goals for the struggling Tigers, including both strikes as Brown’s side battled back from 2-0 down to draw at relegation rivals Bolton last month.

Chairman Adam Pearson has said the club are overspending by around £9m on wages but efforts are being concentrated on moving on fringe players, not first-team regulars.

Defender Nathan Doyle, who has not featured in the Premier League since last March, yesterday became the first player to leave in the transfer window after agreeing a two-and-a-half-year deal with Barnsley.

Out-of-favour striker Daniel Cousin is close to finalising a loan move to QPR but the deal is on hold, with the Gabon captain in Angola for the African Nations Cup.
