Captain John Terry is hoping the FA Cup can spur Chelsea’s youngsters onto greater things after their 5-0 drubbing of Watford earned them a fourth-round tie away to Preston.

The Lancashire side were 7-0 winners against League One Colchester on Saturday and are currently 16th in the second tier.

It is the third time that holders Chelsea have been drawn against North End in the FA Cup.

The Blues emerged victorious after a replay in 1969, and then Eidur Gudjohnsen, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Mikael Forssell all scored in a fifth-round victory on the way to the 2002 final.

Two goals from Daniel Sturridge, an own goal from John Eustace plus strikes from Florent Malouda and Frank Lampard saw the Blues overcome a poor Watford side in the third round at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea will be without four key players in January with 19-goal Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou, Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel away on international duty in the African Nations Cup.

Youngsters Gael Kakuta, Nemanja Matic and Sturridge all got in on the action against Watford and Terry is hoping his own FA Cup experience can rub off on the youngsters.

“We love winning the FA Cup at this club, we’ve done it a few times and we want to do it again,” said Terry.
