Terry out as Rooney leads

John Terry was ruled out of England’s friendly against Brazil in Doha this evening, meaning Wayne Rooney was named captain of his country for the first time.

Terry failed to recover from an Achilles injury so Manchester City’s Joleon Lescott was chosen to partner Matthew Upson in central defence.
