Whelan: Teamwork will give us an edge over France

Republic of Ireland midfielder Glen Whelan believes that his team have an advantage over the French with their team spirit and thinks that perhaps Les Bleus are weak in defence.

The Stoke middleman, when asked “Where do you think the French team is most vulnerable, in defence?” said: “You’ve said it.”

But he went on to say: “Obviously, they have got top players all over the park, but as a team they haven’t done as well as they would expect.”

On their respective teamwork, Whelan was adamant that Trap’s men were ahead of the French.

He said: “The players that have come in, they know what to expect, but I think just having a settled squad has helped us a lot.”
