Hunt focuses on the positives from draw with Italy

Stephen Hunt has said that the Republic of Ireland are a "little bit disappointed" at their failure to win last night's World Cup qualifier against Italy at Croke Park after Sean St Ledger's dramatic late goal.

However, the Hull City midfielder refused to linger on the disappointment saying "The boys did well. We just did the world champions.

"We played well against the world champions and let's take confidence from that into the next few games."

Of the chances of topping the group, Hunt said: "We had a chance to sneak in, but it would have been a hard ask. Italy would have beaten Cyprus more than likely at home anyway."

The midfielder rejected the notion that both sides were playing for a draw to ensure they would both progress.

He said: "No definitely not. Whenever you play for your country, friendly or World Cup qualifier, you've got to give your best. I thought we played pretty well."

Of manager Giovanni Trapattoni, Hunt said: "He is obviously disappointed, but happy with the performance."
