Wolves' fringe players to get Carling Cup chance

Mick McCarthy will turn to his fringe first-team players for Wolves’ Carling Cup second round clash against Swindon tomorrow night.

The Wanderers boss admitted he will rotate his starting XI to give some members of his squad a chance to prove their worth and others a break after three Barclays Premier League games in a week.

Marcus Hahnemann, Matt Hill, Christophe Berra, Ronald Zubar, Andrew Surman, David Jones, Kevin Doyle and Sam Vokes have all been mentioned as possible starters at Molineux.

Midfielder Greg Halford and defender Stephen Ward both picked up knocks in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend and are expected to be rested, while strikers Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (hamstring) and Chris Iwelumo (foot), winger Michael Kightly (foot and hip) and right-back Kevin Foley (knee) remain out.

Provisional squad: Hennessey, Hahnemann, Ikeme, Stearman, Berra, Craddock, Mancienne, Zubar, Elokobi, Hill, Surman, Henry, Milijas, Jones, Jarvis, Edwards, Keogh, Vokes, Doyle, Spray.
