Players set to support Coughlan

Cork City FC players are set to row in behind owner Tom Coughlan’s plans to save the club.

Coughlan, who is actively raising funds to meet the revenue bill of more than €400,000 by Friday met with the PFAI this morning in Cork and outlined his plans with regard to keeping the club alive and what effect these will have on the players and their current salaries.

The PFAI were meeting the players after training today in Bishopstown and informing them of Coughlan’s request that he defer their wages by one week, so that he can pay the €100,000 due in wages to them to the Revenue.

The City owner currently has €220,000 to give to the revenue.

He had hoped that their league game against Bray could have been brought forward by 24 hours, a move that could have netted the club close to €50,000 if they got a large crowd to attend the game, but Bray were not able to accommodate their request and the game now remains on Friday night.

“I have asked the players to agree to a defer all of their wages by one week so we can keep the club alive.

“They will come back to me later today, but the picture that was very bleak on Monday is looking better today.

“Our sponsors have been magnificent. They are helping us by bringing forward payments due to us.

“The goodwill I have received in the last 24 hours is amazing.

“We are back in the High Court on Friday afternoon and let me tell the fans right now the game with Bray Wanderers is going ahead,” concluded Coughlan.
