Roma sale collapses

The proposed sale of Serie A outfit Roma has collapsed after a month of negotiations, the club have confirmed.

Roma’s parent company Italpetroli, controlled by the family of club president Rosella Sensi , announced today that negotiations to sell the majority stake to a Swiss conglomorate headed by Vinicio Fioranelli had fallen through.

A statement read: “With regards to the interest expressed by Vinicio Fioranelli, via a Swiss company, to acquire the majority shares for AS Roma, Italpetroli company states that as of today, despite the efforts taken, there are no conditions to continue with an eventual agreement.”

The Sensi family were set to sell their 67% stake to Fioranelli for a reported €200m.

Roma, who finished sixth in Serie A last season, were at the centre of takeover speculation last year when billionaire financier George Soros showed interest before talks ended without a deal being reached.
