Shawky keen to quit Boro

Middlesbrough midfielder Mohamed Shawky has admitted he is keen to leave the club as soon as possible.

The Egypt international, 27, has started just nine Barclays Premier League matches for the Teessiders this season, having signed from Al-Ahly on transfer deadline day in the summer of 2007.

And told the Evening Gazette: ā€œI will not complete my contract at Boro. I will start from now to search for a new club.

ā€œI haven’t received any offers yet, but I have huge hope that they will arrive in the coming period, especially from English clubs who now know my abilities.ā€

Shawky has also criticised Boro manager Gareth Southgate’s treatment of international team-mate Mido, who was a peripheral figure at the Riverside before joining Wigan on loan last month.

ā€œMido underwent a lot of injustice at Middlesbrough,ā€ Shawky said.

ā€œHe was the best striker in the squad and its top scorer but, despite this, he was not played regularly.ā€
