Redknapp wants stronger players

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admitted he is haunted by the fear of relegation after his misfiring side scraped into the Carling Cup final, despite losing 3-2 at Burnley last night.

Spurs will bid to retain the trophy they won last season when they face Manchester United at Wembley on March 1 after extra-time goals from Roman Pavyluchenko and Jermain Defoe secured an aggregate 6-4 victory.

They also face United at Old Trafford in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, yet next Tuesday’s home clash against fellow strugglers Stoke is Redknapp’s priority.

Tottenham have not won for six league games and, with injuries piling up, Redknapp fears his side will struggle to cope.

Midfielder Jamie O’Hara sustained a groin strain at Turf Moor and defenders Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson also picked up knocks to join a growing casualty list.

Redknapp said he needs new players because a number of his squad are simply not up to the job.
