Galway salvage point against Rovers

Jay O'Shea scored his fourth goal in five games as Galway salvaged a precious point in a cracking west coast derby at the Showgrounds.

The brilliance of keeper Richard Brush at one end and the opportunism of Rafael Cretaro at the other looked to have earned Sligo a win.

Brush kept the sides scoreless at the break with two stunning stops from John Russell and O'Shea.

The pacy Cretaro broke the deadlock on 52 minutes when turning defender Alan Keane to rifle a shot to the top right corner of Rogers' net.

But Galway levelled 15 minutes from time when O'Shea blasted home a penalty after Danny Ventre had pulled down substitute Derek Glynn.

Sligo might have won it in the final minute but for a superb save by Gary Rogers from Paul McTiernan.

The draw was of little use to either side. Galway remain bottom while Sligo needed to win to keep their tenuous hopes of UEFA Cup qualification alive.
